I was content, sitting on the edge of cliff, gazing at the vast cenote before me. A elderly local had just told me about the cenote, and it's legend of the Mayan underworld. He must have been a good storyteller because I actually believed him at first, but I remembered that it was only a legend, a myth, a fairytale! Fairy tales and myths are never true... Right? The elder seemed disapproving of my disbelief.
Suddenly, I felt a strong push and I immediately fell right off the cliff and into the water of the cenote! Screaming, I fell fifty feet and plunged into the deep murky water. Panicking, I gasped for air, water speeding in my lungs, as I began to attempt to swim. My body kept sinking and sinking until it was dark. I closed my eyes.
A small light peeked in through my eyelids. I slowly lifted my eyelids and gasped to spot a tiny ball of light floating in the water beside me. Where am I?, I thought rubbing my eyes. The ball of light moved and rest on a gray rock, covered with white sand. I followed the light. Then haul ted in disbelief to look upon a large Mayan statue, which had a large brown nose, and dead bodies half buried in the sand under it. The legend was true!

I think blogging is helping me learn about places in Latin America, since I am thinking about where I'd like to go, and who I'd like to meet. It's like writing a book about a Tahiti. You either have to research a lot about Tahiti or actually go there inorder to make a good book about it.

Day 35: The Mysterious lines of Peru

  Since I was a child, I have been perplexed and intrigued by arrays of mysterious, perfect and symmetrical lines located in the Atacama Desert, created by the ancient Nazca civilization from about 802 BC.Various lines are perfectly straight going for miles, yet others form objects which can only be viewed from the sky or by mountain top. For the past 11 days, I flew to Peru on a local plane, and for the past five I've been climbing up Machu Picchu. I can't believe it! I'M IN MACHU PICCHU! It is so beautiful, I must be dreaming. I'm in awe. This is so great, there isn't enough words to discribe it.
The hike was so exhausting, but it was worth it. I can see everything from up here. I'm planing to take the train back down because, although it was worth it, I'm not making that trip again!
Machu Picchu is so amazing. I "joined" a tour and have been learning all about the Inca and this ancient ruin. Wow! I love it here. I have been staying with my cousin the past few days in a jungle hut on the Amazon river and it is amazing! My cousin, Tom, lives here on the Amazon with his wife, and love it. They have lived here for a year and have no intention on moving, from their lovely Amazon house and relaxed life style. Tom is an artist and his wife, Stacie, is a a photography, so living here is heaven for them.
This is their house. It's really nice; you can walk out into the forest from here! They even have animals that come into their yard!

It is so beautiful out here! It is so awing to see all these tropical birds and animals. The only down side is the insects here are HUGE! I'd do it again in a heart beat.
</pictures>

Day 4: Down the canal

    It is my seventh day on my trip and I am waiting at the train station for a bus that will take me to the Panama canal, where a ferry is waiting. The last week has been amazing! To the left is a picture of the beach in back of my hotel in Mexico. It is so beautiful! On my second day of my trip, I toured Mexico City, which is a little less than 300 miles from my hotel, and even picked up some Espanol! I bought a cute, little salad boll and matching salad tongs in a farmers market, and a blue sombrero from a local shop. Day three and four, I spent the day sight seeing! I saw the Sierra Madre Occidental and got so great pictures. I also got to climb up an ancient Mayan ruin, on the Yucatan peninsula. I spent the fifth and sixth day at the hotel's private beach on the Pacific coast. I spent some time scuba diving at a reef with my scuba diving instructor, Carmen, who has turned out to be an awesome friend! I loved diving! I even got to pet a stingray and this huge fish! I saw all kinds of tropical fish and took some cool underwater pictures with my water-proof, digital camera, which cost under 15 American dollars, thanks to Carmen's generous hotel employee discount. I'll post a few photos after I figure out how to work this camera! They are interesting. There's even one Carmen took of me with the huge fish!

   So, anyway, I am now currently waiting for the bus. I think something happened to it, but a local said this happens a lot. I just got off the train about ten minutes ago. The train took me from Mexico City all the way down to Costa Rica! Oop, I have to go! I better grab something to eat before I get on the bus, since they didn't have any food on the train. Well, except live chickens.

My Trip to Latin America

I am touring Central America, the Carribean, and South America for a whole month.
